Harnessing the Connection Between the Gut and the Brain
Scientific evidence has shown there may be a link between bacteria commonly found in the digestive tract, and the brain which could contribute to certain characteristics, such as irritability, in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Study Medication AB-2004
AB-2004 is being studied as a non-antipsychotic treatment for irritability associated with ASD. It was safe and well tolerated in a previous study in adolescents with ASD.
AB-2004 is designed to absorb certain substances produced by gut bacteria, in order to reduce their ability to enter the bloodstream and reach the brain.
AB-2004 works only in the gut, which may decrease the potential for side effects in other parts of the body.
AB-2004 is a tasteless and odorless powder that can be mixed with soft food.
